Prologue
Zoey:
I didn’t know if I was asleep or awake. All I knew was that I wasn’t alone in my dreams.
I was some where I didn’t recognize when I heard a very familiar voice.
Zoey do not fear, you are not in danger.
I turned around sharply to see the perfect figure of Nyx.
“Oh, Nyx, you scared me,” I said nearly breathless.
I know and I’m sorry to scare you, but I have very good news for you. I waited in silence as I stood in front of her. I have marked two people in Tulsa and through me they will be your brother and sister in spirit.
“Why?”
Zoey you are my eyes and ears in this world and now I see that you are in need and are alone. You are like no other fledging and also the start of other fledglings’. You will be their mentors until the time that they undergo the change.
I felt tears come to my eyes as I spoke, “thank you, Nyx. I am honored that you are being so kind to me.”
Zoey, her angelic voice spoke to me and softened, you are my daughter and I will all ways be with you. I have been watching these humans for a long time and they need you. Their lives have been chaotic for years and they roam around on free will and surviving off each other.
“How will I know who they are,” my voice was cheerful. Then a thought came to me, “What about Nefret.”
Nyxs’ face was suddenly grave, I know what you are afraid of and I assure you no harm will come to them. Then her face lite up with a smile, they will find you before you will find them.
“Thank you so much, Nyx,” I said and smiled to her.
No, It should be thanking you for bring my word to your fellow fledglings’. Now go to sleep and wake up to a night when all will be changed.
Then as her form disappeared I fell into a sleep that probably couldn’t wake up the dead.
